The song is fine but Priyadarshan said no in my film, I had a fight with Priya: Shibu Chakraborty

Lyricist Shibu Chakraborty talks about how director Priyadarshan changed the lyrics he originally wrote in the song sequence of the film ‘Mukundetta Sumitra Khurari’. He said that the first lines he wrote were out of context of the story.

One of the most loved songs in Prayadarshan’s Mukundetta Sumitra Khururi is the song that starts with ‘Ormakal odukilichuana tha thirumuttam etatuwan’. But its appeal was not that at first. But now the lyrics that everyone likes are written by me without any interest.

The first lines written in Anupallavi are the lines that start with ‘Karkit Raavin’s Kalpadav and Kaalam played a paper canoe’. Those lines are really talking about the relationship between male and female. The rewritten lyrics read ‘I have made a pothali with lotus thread to dress you up’.

Actually when I wrote those lyrics the situation was love between brothers. But after recording the song, Priyan said that the song is good, but the situation has changed. Now that sister is gone. But Priyan said that the tune is good, just change the lyrics.

I said I will not write. Because I have four sisters. Rarely do I get a chance to write about brotherly love like this. I wrote those lines with so much love. He argued with Priyan saying that it was not written like that. To solve the problem, Ousepachan took me to Marina Beach.

So it is a song written reluctantly while sitting on the branch of a dry tree washed up by some tide at Marina Beach. I am actually writing that song under the insistence of Ousepachan,’ said Shibu Chakraborty.

Mukundetta Sumitra is a 1988 film directed by Priyadarshan starring Mohanlal as the lead. All the songs in the film, composed by Ousepachan to the lyrics of Shibu Chakraborty, were hits.
