Severe clashes broke out during Shabbat in Jerusalem between the two factions in Gur Hasidism, against the background of the split in the yard. Violence also occurred in several centers in the cities of Bnei Brak and Ashdod. In Bnei Brak, it was reported that one of the Hasidim was attacked with severe violence and that a large synagogue was damaged in Ashdod.
The main point of friction was on Bar Ilan Street in the capital, near the Beit Midrash of Rosh Yeshiva Gerash Alter. The clashes began on Friday and were accompanied by stone-throwing and objects.
Tonight (Saturday night) the clashes in Bnei Brak and Jerusalem resumed. Hundreds of people are participating in the mass riot on Bar Ilan Street in the capital. At the same time, rescue forces were called to Rabbi Shach Street in Bnei Brak after a follower was reported attacked. A police force is on the scene in an attempt to restore order.
A number of damaged vehicles were reported to the police even before the beginning of Shabbat. Large forces of the JSM and the Border Police acted to prevent the violence.
Police said yesterday that from the evening hours, intermittent violence had begun among one of the Hasidim in Jerusalem, as a result of an internal conflict.
Police said there were a number of minor casualties as a result of violence between those involved and one policeman who was hit by a stone thrown at him. Police activity continues at the scene.
