General Director of SRS Baiba Šmite-Roķe explains that the goal of SRS is to become more efficient and productive, this includes both reducing the administrative burden for clients by automating the activities to be performed, and reviewing the activities performed by SRS, where digital tools allow saving resources.

Already now, the total number of SRS staff positions is 61 less than at the beginning of 2024, due to the reduced number of employees in both tax and customs blocks.

“Evaluating permanently unfilled vacancies, we choose to eliminate them, if possible increasing the salary of those colleagues who have actually covered this vacancy and are able to work effectively,” says Šmite-Roķe.

In the second half of the year, the number of employees in the so-called control block is also expected to be reduced, as the SRS has become more efficient in value added tax (VAT) administration, for example, by trusting A-rated companies, VAT overpayments are almost automatically refunded.

Šmite-Roķe explains that most of these are vacant positions, however, the most important thing is the productive contribution of SRS employees, therefore the transformation of positions within the SRS is also planned.

“Every experienced professional is important to us, so even when reviewing functions, we will offer our best employees to perform other duties as much as possible according to their skills and knowledge,” says Šmite-Roķe.

Also, the Director General of the SRS draws attention to the fact that the planned separation of the Tax and Customs Police Administration from the SRS is not related to the reduction of the mentioned positions.
