According to the State Bank, in the initial phase, 2 designs of currency notes of Rs 10, Rs 500 and Rs 5 thousand have been shortlisted, one of which will be approved later. Featuring images of Jinnah, the new currency notes will be manufactured to international standards and issued by December.

It should be remembered that during the meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance on August 21, Governor State Bank said that the design of all currency notes will be changed by December, after which these notes will be issued with formal approval. “We will test the plastic currency and release it if there is public acceptance,” the governor said.

State Bank of Pakistan also announced the winners of the competition, in which several artists won positions for their outstanding creations. The first prize for the design of the Rs 10 bank note was awarded to Dr. Sherry Abdi, while Mr. Mirza Sufian got the second position. Other notable winners include Mr. Haroon Khan for the Rs.20 note and Ms. Maimona Afzal for the Rs.100 and Rs.5000 notes, who bagged the first prize in both categories.
