The US State Department commented on reports of Russia’s plans to withdraw from the International Space Station project after 2024. According to Ned Price, a spokesman for the US Foreign Ministry, Washington views this news as “sad.”

“This is a sad event, given the extremely important scientific work,” he said, “the valuable professional collaboration that our space agencies have had…”

Price also recalled the renewal of the agreement on cooperation in manned programs.

The news from Moscow came as a “surprise”; whether any negotiations are underway on this topic is not yet known, the representative of the State Department concluded. NASA previously stated that it had not yet received official notifications from Roscosmos.
