If the companies that are supposed to install smart electricity meters will not be fined for their failure to install them until 2024, then this will lead to a delay in the process of replacing conventional devices with smart ones, says Svetlana Razorotneva, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Utilities. She shared her opinion with the Parliamentary Gazette.

As Razvorotneva noted, the bill providing for the postponement of the introduction of fines for non-installation of smart meters until January 1, 2024, is under consideration in the State Duma in the second reading. In the first reading, it was adopted on December 17.

Razvorotneva called this measure “half-hearted”. “Lack of responsibility will mean that smart metering devices will simply not be installed. In the current situation, no one is simply interested in this, ”said Razorotneva.

According to the parliamentarian, it was initially assumed that the introduction of smart meters could be financed by reducing the costs of companies. But in practice, it turned out that power engineers did not benefit from their installation.

Therefore, companies that declare that they do not have money for the implementation of the program, at the end of the past, demanded an increase in tariffs, but could not achieve it, said Razorotneva.
