A bill has been submitted to the State Duma of Russia, which provides for punishment for identifying the actions and goals of the USSR and Nazi Germany during World War II. The document was registered on the Duma website on Wednesday, October 27th.

It is proposed to fine citizens in the amount of 1,000 to 2,000 rubles or to subject them to administrative arrest for up to 15 days. Officials can be fined from 1,000 to 4,000 rubles, legal entities – from 10 to 50 thousand rubles. If the ban is violated again, citizens face a fine of up to 5,000, officials – up to 20,000, legal entities – up to 100,000 rubles.

In early July, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a law that prohibits denying “the decisive role of the Soviet people in the victory over fascism,” as well as identifying the goals and actions of the USSR and Nazi Germany in World War II. The corresponding amendments were recommended to be prepared by Putin himself in January following a meeting of the Council for Culture and Arts. On May 25, the State Duma adopted the bill in the first reading, on June 9 – in the third, final reading.
