Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin said that the law on the indexation of pensions in Russia by 8.6% will be adopted immediately in the second and third (final) readings, if the deputies support it.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to make a decision on the indexation of pensions by 8.6% in the near future. The government later amended the bill, which had already passed the first reading.

It is specified that after indexation, the average old-age insurance pension this year will be 18,984 rubles.

“If the deputies support it, then this law will be adopted immediately in the second and third readings. This decision is designed to protect Russians in the face of increased inflation, namely: to compensate pensioners for the additional costs that have arisen due to rising prices,” Volodin said.

According to him, this rule will also have retroactive effect, and will work from January 1, 2022. Funds for these needs are available in the budget.
