The Ura.ru portal, with reference to the deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, Tatyana Solomatina, said that people who have had coronavirus are more likely to develop cancer.

According to the expert, in such patients, cancer can develop either in the gastrointestinal tract or in the lungs.

“COVID has become the starting point for the emergence of certain diseases,” added Solomatina.

Earlier, the director of the department for the organization of medical care and sanatorium and resort affairs of the Ministry of Health, Yekaterina Karakulina, said that the detection of oncology had become less frequent due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, in a few years, a significant increase in cases of advanced oncological diseases and a reduction in the life of cancer patients is possible.

Recall that scientists from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in South Africa, together with colleagues from the University of Pretoria, reported that the death rate from the omicron strain is 75% lower than in previous variants of the coronavirus.
