The anarchic occupations of the slums and maritime domains in Conakry are causing a worrying and interesting debate in the city to the point of directly attacking the occupants. But who sold these maritime domains of the state and the slums to the wealthy, the richest? But let’s not look elsewhere, it is state agents, in particular officials from the Ministry of Urban Planning and Housing who sold and issued land titles even sometimes to the current occupants of these places.

From Dixinn Bora, where businessman Mamadou Sylla lives, the large TOTAL station, the lower depths of the TOTAL station in Dabondy or the brand new market opposite, built by a wealthy Lebanese recently, were sold by the Guinean state under the reigns of President Lansana Conté, who died in December 2008, and Alpha Condé, victim of a coup d’état on September 5, 2021 by the CNRD. The arms of the sea from the southern cornice of Coleah to Matoto, or even beyond or from the northern cornice, from the camayenne to Cobaya, passing through the lowlands of Tayaki to Sonfonia, were sold here in full view by natives and agents of the Ministry of Urban Planning to the wealthy, preventing rainwater from flowing towards the sea. I am a child born in Conakry and I personally saw most of these unoccupied places at the time of Ahmed Sékou Touré, when our cornices were enviable, beautiful, luxuriant and attractive. All this anarchic occupation began during the 2nd and 3rd regimes, when these Maritime domains were sold by the hundreds and completely blocking the passage of rainwater towards the sea, located on both sides, extremities of the city of Conakry. From the Kaloum peninsula to KM 36. From the camayenne to Sonfonia.

When I hear the Minister of Territorial Administration, Ibrahima Kalil Condé, threaten the occupants of the lowlands with eviction, he would do better to first seek the origin of this anarchic occupation and proceed to the evaluation of the occupied areas. The phenomenon affects all of Conakry and the cities of Dubreka and Coyah. In reality, the Guinean state let it happen through acts of corruption and the citizens bought and the consequences are terrible today. When a state does not plan, does not react in time, this is what it must expect.

He is therefore partly responsible for the anarchic occupation of the lowlands and maritime areas in Conakry. Mr. Minister, you have your work cut out for you!
