The plan implemented by the Directorate of Prisons, which during the administration of President Nayib Bukele has provided tools for a true reintegration of prisoners, without gang ties, means a saving of 56 million dollars for the Government.

“Our goal is to rehabilitate and reintegrate all non-violent criminals who are willing to undergo training and pay their debt to society. We have already started with the first 48,000,” the president said.

The Zero Leisure Plan brings together around 48,000 inmates in the confidential phase, who are not dangerous, delegated to carry out work in the territory in different areas, contributing to the reconstruction of the country and repairing part of the damage they have done to society.

“They are being given training, reintegration, dignity, reparation to society, and we are saving all that money,” added the president, commenting on how non-violent prisoners are being rehabilitated.

The Director General of Prisons, Osiris Luna, said that these inmates will make 1.2 million school uniforms that will be delivered to students in the country’s public educational centers.

“We are preparing a large textile workshop to make all the student uniforms nationwide. We are going to make about 1.2 million uniforms in the first stage to deliver them next year,” Luna explained.
