The State Tax Service of Azerbaijan has considered the possibilities of cooperation with the IMF

Within International Forum on Carbon Pricingorganized in Baku, head of the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan Orhan Nazarli held a meeting with the Deputy Chief Revenue Officer of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Margaret Cotton.

As Day.Az was informed by the State Tax Service, it was emphasized at the meeting that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to expanding ties with the IMFthe importance of the organization’s support for projects implemented in the direction of improving the business environment and developing public-private partnerships was noted.

“During the meeting, the importance of the forum, held jointly by the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan and the Organization of European Tax Administrations (IOTA), was especially emphasized, as well as the relevance of the topic. It was noted that supporting the green economy, accelerating the transition to low-carbon business -decisions constitute the main focus of countries’ activities.

In particular, achieving decarbonization while maintaining stable economic activity, applying an equitable approach and supporting the business environment is one of the issues of interest to the international community. It was noted that carbon pricing and carbon tax mechanisms need to be carefully examined.

The Head of the Civil Service mentioned that the tax authorities of Azerbaijan conducted an analysis in this direction and studied international experience. The parties shared their views on assessing the role of fiscal instruments in the decarbonization process.

At the meeting, the possibilities of strengthening the partnership with the IMF on the use of tax instruments for the development of a sustainable and competitive economy, improving the business environment, and promoting public-private partnerships were discussed. The parties exchanged views on priority areas of cooperation, the work done in promoting international relations of tax authorities and promising projects,” the State Service said in a statement.
