DISPATCH — On October 20, the Rolling Stones will release a new studio album made up of 12 original songs: “Hackney Diamonds”. Fans have been waiting for this for almost twenty years.

Their last album “Blue and Lonesome” was released in 2016, but the group hasn’t recorded a 100% original album for 18 years. It will be done with this 24th studio album.

“We were maybe a little lazy and then suddenly we were like, let’s set a date and make a record,” quipped Mick Jagger, the band’s charismatic lead singer who turned 80 in July. He presented the album alongside Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, in front of the press.

Interviewed by American television host and humorist Jimmy Fallon, in the “Hackney Empire Theatre”, the three British rock grandpas arrived all smiles.

“I’ve been following the Stones since I was four years old and I’m from the neighborhood (…) It’s crazy that they are here”, ignited Rory McGlinchey, himself a musician. “It was about time!” Adds Victoria Riley, 50 and from the north of England.

“Hackney Diamonds” will be their first album since the band’s drummer, Charlie Watts, died in 2021 at age 80.

The Rolling Stones had announced its release in August, via an enigmatic advertisement which appeared in a local daily newspaper, the Hackney Gazette. “Hackney Diamonds, glass repair experts. Opening September 2023,” it read. The suspense did not last very long, the fans having quickly found the clues…
