The sight was terrible
The Urboni family living near Raguva, in the village of Uženevėži, at Vējo street 13, experienced a horror on Thursday last week. The storm blew off the roof of a two-story brick house.
“We were at home at the time. Through the windows, we noticed that the wind had started tearing the roof of the farm building. I asked the man to pull the car over so that the falling pieces of the roof wouldn’t damage it. He ran out into the yard, then I saw the man looking at our house, grabbed his head and ran to the gazebo. He saw everything, and when we were at home, we could only hear something falling. I ran to another window, there I saw some fallen bricks on the ground. Then the man came back and said we didn’t have the whole roof. I ran out into the yard and only then realized what had happened. I was very scared,” Justina Urbonienė, who lives here, said excitedly.
Thank fate
The woman is happy and thankful to fate that at that time her mother and her two young children were on the first floor. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
“I’m afraid to even think, after all, everything could have ended differently. I don’t know what would have happened if we had stayed on the second floor. I thank God that bricks or concrete blocks didn’t start falling on us,” said Justina.
After the storm, the Urboni family, with the help of their friends, put a film on the roof to at least not rain into the house, and for now everyone is sheltering on the first floor.
“This house belongs to my mother Stace. My husband and two young children live with her. Mom is after a hip operation, she has difficulty walking. At the moment, I look after the children and take care of my mother,” said Justina.
Asking people for help
According to J. Urbonienė, in addition to them, another family lives in this duplex. She has insured her property, Urboni’s house was not insured.
Justina estimates that covering the roof will cost at least 15 thousand euros, and the family does not have that kind of money. Therefore, friends of Justina and Tomas rush to help, who ask for help on the social network and indicate Justina Urbonienė’s account number – LT247300010131001713. In the destination, please write – support in case of damage during the storm.
“My husband works at two jobs – he is on duty at the fire station every fourth day and works at one of the companies in Panevėžys. We cling to life as best we can, but in this situation we don’t have that kind of money. We don’t know what to do. The roof is needed here and now, after all, the film will only temporarily protect against wind and rain,” said J. Urbonienė.
“I didn’t find out right away that people are invited to donate to our family. Later, my friend said, I wouldn’t have dared to do it myself. I feel great gratitude to everyone together and to everyone individually, who will turn to our family with a truly helping hand. There are no words that I can use to describe how we feel, we are as if helpless – I would not wish anyone to find themselves in such a situation”, – J. Urbonienė struggled to find the words.
