Abu Ja’far Al-Mansur became the Abbasid caliph in 754-775 Ma or 137-159 AH the government of the Abbasid Daula developed starting from him.
ITex Books, Islamic History and CultureVolume 1 (Ujung Pandang: IAIN Alaudin, 1981-1982), states that Al-Mansur was appointed caliph after his brother Abu Abbas al-Safah died in 136/754 AD.
He is known as a man who is brave, hard-hearted, strong in faith, wise, intelligent, brave, thorough, disciplined, strong in worship and simple.
As soon as Abu Ja’far Al-Mansur became caliph, the first thing to do was to paralyze the three forces. They are Abdullah bin Ali, the Shiites and Abu Muslim.
Syamruddin Nasution in his book titled “History of Islamic civilization” said, once the rebellion of Abdullah bin Ali and Saleh bin Ali was crushed, Abu Muslim was the next target.
At that time, the name Abu Muslim was very popular, especially after he assigned the caliph to eliminate Abdullah bin Ali and Saleh bin Ali in Nasibin. The name Abu Muslim is very prominent in Khurasan.
This pursuit made him forget the land. He forgets that his role is only as an executor of policy. While the reins are in the hands of the people.
Syamruddin Nasution said that Abu Muslim, who played a major role in the movement to establish the Abbasid Daulah movement, was admittedly more popular than the caliph himself, especially at that time.
Caliph al-Mansur had his own account with this Abu Muslim, because he also had his own political instincts.
When he was appointed caliph, he was afraid of three parties and had to get rid of them; firstly, his uncle Abdullah bin Ali, secondly, Abu Muslim al-Khurasani himself, and thirdly the Shiites.
Abu Muslim was very powerful in Khurasan, therefore the caliph al-Mansur was very worried that he could use his power to paralyze the government of the caliphate at the center. Therefore, for the sake of the continuity of the Abbasid Daula, Abu Muslim had to be killed.
For this reason he was invited to appear before the caliph at the palace. Although people close to him forbade him to leave, they often advised him not to leave, but al-Mansur still insisted on leaving.
His arrival was greeted with great honor and then he was tried, and put to death.
When Abu Muslim was about to be killed, there was a dialogue between him and the caliph. Abu Muslim said: “Let me live to face the enemies of my master! Ya Commander of the Faithful”.
al-Mansur replied, “Who is my greatest enemy besides you O Abu Muslim”?
Caliph al-Mansur ordered the executioners who had been prepared in advance to kill Abu Muslim in the Caliph’s palace.
Two parties, out of the three parties that al-Mansur feared the most, that had to be removed, have been completed. Now comes the third turn, that is the Shia group.
