Juan David Sepúlveda, a 38-year-old Colombian, received several stab wounds on July 2 when he prevented a man from attacking his pregnant ex-partner in the Madrid Metro.

The episode occurred at the Lucero station when the aggressor, who had a stay restriction, threatened and attempted to sexually assault the woman in the middle of a public street.

Four months after that episode, Sepúlveda was received in a symbolic gesture by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, at the Real Casa de Correos, headquarters of the autonomous Government.

According to accounts from local newspapers that recorded the encounter, Sepúlveda said that she did not hesitate to act because the aggressor “was going to kill her.”

However, the perpetrator had a kitchen knife in his backpack with which he first cut him on the face and then another on the abdomen, causing intestinal evisceration.

The woman was the one who later called the emergency line to attend to Sepúlveda. “Thank God the health workers arrived soon,” Efe reported.

Doctors stabilized him and he was then sent to the Clinical Hospital. For his brave action, Ayuso thanked this Wednesday the performance and courage of the Colombian, who attended the event along with the Colombian Ambassador to Spain, Eduardo Ávila.
