The 2023 Streamy Awards Celebrate Digital Creators and Online Media
Los Angeles was buzzing with excitement as the Streamy Awards returned for its 13th ceremony on Sunday, August 27. The annual awards show, which originally began in 2009 to recognize web series, has since evolved to encompass creators across various platforms. This year’s event celebrated the achievements and successes of digital creators in categories including music, beauty, comedy, food, and gaming.
Hosted by seven-time Streamy-winner MatPat, best known for his award-winning YouTube channel The Game Theorists, the star-studded event featured a lineup of presenters including Dylan Mulvaney, Drew Afualo, Delaney Rowe, Kris Collins, Pinkydoll, Anna Sitar, Brianna Chickenfry, and xQc. Notable figures in the creator sphere, such as Amelia Dimoldenberg of Chicken Shop Date, TikTok star Chris Olsen, and makeup guru Mikayla Nogueira, were also in attendance. The show also recognized newcomers to the scene, including food connoisseur Keith Lee and TikTok’s favorite new comedian, Jake Shane.
One of the highlights of this year’s Streamys was the presentation of the Rolling Stone Sound of the Year award, which recognized the top songs that dominated social platforms. This marked the first year the award show featured this category. The Streamys, owned by Rolling Stone’s parent company, Penske Media Corporation, continues to expand its reach and influence in the digital media industry.
MatPat expressed his pride in being a part of this year’s Streamy Awards, stating, “We’ve designed this year’s show to embody all the wild and weird moments that have defined the last fifteen years of digital content.” The event aimed to capture both nostalgia and a look towards the future, providing a “Greatest Hits of Online Video” experience for the audience.
The full list of winners included some notable names in the digital creator community. MrBeast, known for his philanthropic acts, took home the Creator of the Year award. The Streamer of the Year award went to xQc, who has carved a niche for himself in the gaming world. The Breakout Creator award went to Alix Earle, and the Breakout Streamer award went to Keith Lee.
Other winners included popular shows such as Good Mythical Morning, Hot Ones, and UNHhhh. Creators like Drew Dylan Mulvaney and Jake Shane were recognized for their breakout performances. The awards also celebrated creators who use their platforms for social good, with individuals like MrBallen and jacksepticeye being acknowledged for their charitable efforts.
