The general and indefinite strike launched by the Guinean trade union movement is widely followed in the capital of Middle Guinea. According to our observation, like yesterday Monday, in this second strike, in the city of Labé, apart from the decentralized services, namely the governorate and the prefecture, all economic activities are paralyzed including among others the banks, the central market and that of Daka. All the same, even if some biker taxis work clandestinely, all schools are closed. On the town hall side, if the offices of the municipal executive are open there is no enthusiasm.

At major intersections, mixed security units (gendarmes and police officers and soldiers) have been stationed since yesterday, but the few citizens encountered are moving freely. To enable citizens to survive, the vegetable market continues to operate. Even if this situation rejoices the general secretary of the Regional Union of Workers of Guinea (CNTG) in Labé, this official did not fail to denounce some shortcomings such as yesterday’s arrest of young demonstrators.

“Yesterday was a great day. Yesterday, 85% of workers observed the strike. Why don’t I say 90% it’s because a few biker taxis worked. But in a word it was a success throughout the Labé region, including Tougué, Koubia, Mali, Lélouma. All the same yesterday there were some slip-ups, because there were children who were arrested by the police because of the installation of barricades, something we had asked not to do. Some elements of motorcycle taxis did not want to take part in the strike very early on. Negotiations continue at the national level. Yesterday there were religious people and members of the national social dialogue council who went to the labor exchange to meet the union movement. We demand rights, they just have to tell those in power to respect the protocols of understanding, and to release PENDESSA. For today the strike continues and it is still widely followed today. It is a civilized strike which is underway in Labé. The strike will continue as long as the government sticks to its position,” says El Hadj Lamine Sangaré.

Please note that for the moment no incidents have been recorded in the Labé region.
