The decree will force event organizers to pay an amount for any damage to the surroundings of the venue.
The Municipality from Ñuñoa announced the approval of a charge for the use of National Stadium for massive events, a decree that caused a great confrontation with the Trade Association of Entertainment and Culture Production Companies.
The decree was unanimously approved on February 27 by the authorities of that commune, and seeks that the organizers who hold events in said park, pay municipal fees for any damage caused to the surroundings of the premises.
The municipal regulations are mainly aimed at artistic, cultural and sporting events whose production or realization depends on private for-profit organizations and whose capacity is greater than 10 thousand attendees
Event producers disapprove of the decree
As a result of this situation, the Agepec presented a letter to the municipality accusing “illegality” in the decree. This, since it is established that massive events that take place in the National Stadium pay municipal rights for concepts of “recovery of public space due to negative externalities and rights to protect the perimeter.”
“The initiative to charge a municipal fee to cover possible damages after an event at the National Stadium has nothing to do with the mere superfluous calculation of how much money per person this arbitrary table means, but because “This is an interference in a series of duties and responsibilities that do not belong to the event producers, but to the municipality itself.”accused the president of Agepec, Jorge Ramírez.
“If the argument is that mass events affect the commune, “It is a contradiction and a nonsense on the part of the State that it has invested in a park with the desire that massive events occur.”he added.
Regarding this, the cost of this municipal right contemplates a collection of 83 UTM ($5.4 million) for capacities between 10,000 and 30,000 people; 125 UTM ($8.1 million) between 30,001 and 45 thousand people and 174 UTM ($11.3 million) between 45,001 and 65 thousand people.
Finally, the union assured that If they do not receive a response from the municipality, they will go to the corresponding legal authorities.
