After the resignation and escape of the Sheikh Hasina government through a historic movement and popular uprising under the banner of the anti-discrimination student movement, some incidents took place in the Ganobhaban. On that day, thousands of students are carrying out the recovery, renovation and cleaning activities of the Ganobhaban’s lost goods.

This information was given in a statement sent to the media recently.

It is said in the statement that a new Bangladesh has started with a historic movement and mass uprising led by Bangladeshi students on August 5 under the banner of anti-discrimination student movement. This event led to the fall of a dictatorial and fascist ruler who had ruled continuously for 17 years. On the same day, lakhs of people joined mass processions and held mass communication and siege programs at Ganobhaban and Sangsad Bhaban.

Amidst this huge crowd, several unpleasant incidents took place. Among the lakhs of people who flocked in droves, some of them, driven by excitement, broke into the public buildings and the Parliament building, causing widespread vandalism and arson, evoking mixed reactions among the people of the country.

In view of this incident, some students who took part in the movement called for ‘public building reform and cleanliness’ activities by posting on social media. In response to that, students of educational institutions in Dhaka and its surrounding areas and representatives of various government and private institutions spontaneously participated in this initiative. Their enthusiasm and sense of responsibility towards the country in conserving state resources, reforming and cleaning up drives everyone’s attention.

It should be noted that thousands of students participated in this program which started continuously from last August 6 and started the work of cleaning and renovating public buildings. Shakib Arifin and Hafiz Uddin played the role of chief coordinators, Moushumi Akhtar Bandhan as senior coordinator.

Apart from this, Sakir Ahmed, Abdul Aziz, Ikra Islam and Raoman Smita as advisers are working as coordinators. Many people including Kishore Alam played an important role in this activity.

Earlier, on the evening of August 5 last, looted goods of common people were left behind and stored. Also, by raising local awareness and campaigning for the return of looted goods across Dhaka city, thousands of people from Dhaka and surrounding areas voluntarily returned the looted goods and they were re-stored in Ganobhaban through volunteers. So far, more than half of the cargo has been recovered through this initiative.

Among the returned or salvaged goods, a large amount of furniture – such as sofas, tables, chairs, cots, cupboards, dressing tables, bookshelves, etc. was found, most of which were usable. Along with this, various types of electronic and consumable items such as mobiles, TVs, washing machines, ACs, computer monitors, CCTV cameras, CPUs, hard drives, motorcycles, etc. are being specially stored.

Apart from this, important documents, public building documents, books, ledgers, expensive sarees, curtains, and precious glassware are also being specially preserved. As a result of this successful restoration campaign, several people have returned plants and pets taken from public buildings.

Shakib Arifin, the chief coordinator of this program, said that the unwanted events like looting and vandalism that happened in the mass coup of August 5 have damaged our image in the national and international arena; We are therefore working to restore the lost image of Bangladesh by restoring state assets, raising awareness and advancing the reform programs of the interim government.

Hafizuddin Munna, the joint chief coordinator of this program, said, “We have not decided to restore the Ganabhaban after seeing the destruction of the Ganabhaban after a long day of agitation. At the same time, our youth network called “Rebuilding Bangladesh” formed by the students and the people, is taking back the goods of the Ganabhaban to brighten the image of the country. It is conducting various activities like controlling the traffic on the roads, raising awareness in the neighborhood and planting trees.

He said, we think that Bangladesh needs to reform the small systems of the country including health, education, market regulation, road and transport system to build Sonar Bangla. If we students and people work together with the newly elected government, it is possible to accelerate the development of the country and build a country against discrimination. However, in that case, the cooperation and involvement of various public and private institutions is necessary.

Moushumi Akhter Bandhan, senior coordinator of this program said, at the transition stage of our country, due to the uncontrollable behavior of a few people, the whole Bengali nation is being tagged with the name of uncivilized, shameless, perverted, inhuman etc. But it is necessary to know that most of the Bengalis are helping this stagnant country to stand up, even the people who have been civilized are repenting and correcting their mistakes.

Raoman Smita, founder of the Global Law Thinkers Society, one of the supporting organizations of this program, said that the youth of a very small country like Bangladesh, who grew up with various limitations, are showing what kind of country they want today. We have shown respect for the country’s resources and the country through the public building cleaning drive, traffic management and collecting and depositing the goods taken by the very eager and excited people. We people of Bangladesh want to tell the whole world that we love peace, but our voice is strong to prevent injustice.

The advisor of this program. Kishore Alam said that Bangladesh is the only country where political parties gain power by repeatedly donating blood of students. This time the students have taken responsibility for the future of this country. Every person of this country is the womb of all of us in every resource and every establishment, so our students must come forward and work together to protect them.
