The Czech wind ensemble Alinde Quintet, which has existed since 2019 and consists of players born in the 90s of the last century, won in its category in the music competition of the German television ARD. This was announced by the Bavarian station BR Klassik on Thursday.

The 73rd edition of the race started last week in Munich, it had four rounds. The Czech ensemble in the wind quintet category, where 19 ensembles performed, did not find a winner even in the final. Pacific Quintet, made up of musicians from Germany, Honduras, Japan, Russia and Spain, took second place. He also won the audience award.

Musicians refer to the ARD competition as the Olympics in classical music. It is held every year, but only in selected categories. Only some performers are invited to the main competition based on the submitted recording. The Czech wind ensemble Alinde Quintet, which consists of flutist Anna Talácková, oboist Barbora Trnčíková, clarinetist David Šimeček, bassoonist Petr Sedlák and horn player Kryštof Koska, also went through such a selection.

“We are very happy and proud that we became the winners of the ARD competition, which is considered the most prestigious in classical music,” says oboist Trnčíková.

The members of the formation gained experience at universities in London, Brussels, Ljubljana, Lyon, Prague and Brno, as well as in the youth Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and the European Union Youth Orchestra. They hold leading positions in leading orchestras, from the Czech Philharmonic and the orchestra of the National Theater in Prague to the Brno Philharmonic and the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK.

Together, they already placed third in the prestigious Carl Nielsen international competition in Copenhagen last year. This year, among others, visitors to the Prague Spring festival could hear them, in whose international music competition in 2019 flutist Anna Talácková was also successful.

The ARD competition is organized by the German association of regional public broadcasters. It has been held since 1952, during which time the wind quintet has competed eleven times.

In 1966, the winners were the players of the Prague Academic Wind Quintet, and in 1997, the Czech Afflatus Quintet succeeded. In the field of solo instruments, internationally recognized artists such as horn players Radek Baborák, Přemysl Vojta, Kateřina Javůrková, bassoonist Václav Vonášek and cellist Michal Kaňka celebrated their victories here.
