The Sudanese army used anti-aircraft missiles on Tuesday to shoot down drones that were targeting its headquarters in the city of Shendi, in the latest attack of its kind in a series of drone attacks, according to what Reuters quoted witnesses and military sources as saying.

Army sources said that none of the drones hit their target. Military media reported earlier that the Sudanese army commander, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, arrived yesterday, Monday, in Shendi, which is about 180 kilometers north of the capital, Khartoum. It is not yet clear whether he is still in the area or has left.

Today, Tuesday, the drone attack is the third targeting areas still under strong army control. The city of Atbara in the Nile River State, and Gedaref State in the east, were also subjected to drone attacks.

Shendi residents said that the attacks caused panic in the city. In turn, the Arab World News Agency quoted a source in the Sudanese army as saying that an unknown drone bombed the Sudanese army headquarters in the city of Shendi in the Nile River state in the north of the country on Tuesday.

The source added that a suicide drone bombed part of the airstrip of the 3rd Infantry Division, the headquarters of the army headquarters in the city of Shendi, stressing that the strike did not cause any losses at the airstrip or the management of the 3rd Infantry Division.

He said that the army defenses of the 3rd Division were able to shoot down the drone after it carried out a strike on the division’s airstrip, noting that the forces had raised a state of maximum alert in anticipation of any other attack.

Witnesses in the city of Shendi told the Arab World News Agency that they heard the sounds of three powerful explosions this morning.

In Khartoum, the Sudanese army carried out intense artillery strikes on sites belonging to the Rapid Support Forces in the Jabra and Al-Sahafa neighborhoods, south of the capital.

The South Belt Emergency Room revealed today that the number of civilian deaths had risen to 49, in addition to varying injuries as a result of the bombing that occurred in the Soba area last week.
