The “Süddeutsche Zeitung” and its caricature
As of 3:54 p.m

The Ukrainian President Zelenskyj as an overpowering figure at the World Economic Forum in Davos – this is how a cartoonist for the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” summarized what happened at the meeting of economic decision-makers in Switzerland. The scene in which Selenskyj spoke to the participants in Davos via video conference actually existed. However, the caricature, which then appeared in the “SZ”, was so grossly exaggerated that it massively irritated many observers.
After an undoubtedly anti-Semitic caricature that appeared some time ago by Benjamin Netanyahu in the “SZ”, the editor-in-chief said that the processes in the editorial office would be reviewed. Even then there had been cases of problematic caricatures. In this issue of the “Media Week” we talk about the Selenskyj caricature of the “Süddeutsche” and its predecessors.
We also talk about how the media processed the announced separation of the influencer couple Bibi and Julian. On the one hand, the excitement is familiar to us from other well-known couples, on the other hand, the fact that influencers are breaking up here means a new twist on media routine.
The “Media Week” is a podcast about the world of media and its makers. Christian Meier, editor at WELT, and Stefan Winterbauer, editor-in-chief of the industry service Meedia, talk about the most important topics of the week every Friday. Background, analytical, entertaining.
