Solar flare on December 31 – NASA/SDO
MADRID, 2 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Sun recorded December 31 a sudden and intense release of electromagnetic radiation into its atmosphere, a phenomenon also known as a solar flare or eruption.
NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, which constantly observes the Sun, captured an image of the event, as seen in the bright flash on the far left, at 21:55 UTC, NASA reports.
The image shows a subset of extreme ultraviolet light that highlights the extremely hot material in the flares, which is colored in yellow and orange.
Solar flares are powerful explosions of energy. Solar flares and flares can affect radio communications, electrical power grids, navigation signals and pose risks to spacecraft and astronauts.
This flare is rated X5.0. The X class denotes the most intense flares, while the number provides more information about their strength.
