The support of the French head of state for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara is “clear, irreversible and a step in the right direction” (French academic)
Paris – The support of the French head of state, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, for the sovereignty of Morocco over its Sahara is “clear, irreversible and going in the right direction”, underlined Jérôme Besnard, professor of law at the University of Paris.
In a message addressed to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, it is recalled, the French President officially announced to the Sovereign that he “considers that the present and future of Western Sahara are part of Moroccan sovereignty”, the Royal Cabinet said in a statement on Tuesday.
For Mr. Besnard, this position of France, which does justice to the Kingdom of Morocco and its Sovereigns “since the current situation is a consequence of the errors of the colonial policy in terms of delimitation of borders (…) will help in the definitive settlement of one of the oldest international conflicts still debated at the UN.”
And to add that this support from France will “lay the foundations for strengthened economic and security cooperation between the countries of the European Union and Morocco.”
