The Supreme Council of the Amazighs of Libya expressed its support for the comprehensive approach being taken by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Abdullah Batili, to hold elections in 2023.
This came during their meeting with the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya, Residon Zeninga, to present their views on how to hold comprehensive elections in Libya.
The Amazigh delegation stressed the need to grant full rights to the Amazighs and other cultural components, and to address their concerns about providing an equal political ground among all Libyans, according to their words.
According to a post by the mission on Twitter, Zeninga received proposals from the delegation detailing issues related to the representation of the Amazigh and other components, women’s rights, and the necessary measures to be taken to perpetuate the trend towards equal citizenship that recognizes and accommodates all components of Libyan society.
