The Supreme Council of State called for an urgent session of the Council to complete the elections for the presidency office.

The council said in a statement that the support “came based on a request submitted by council members in accordance with Article 56 of the internal regulations, and upon the invitation of the committee heads.”

The Council set the session date for Wednesday, August 28, at 11:00 a.m.

The announcement of the results of the second round of the election of the President of the Supreme Council of State witnessed verbal altercations and a dispute over a ballot paper to elect the President of the Council, and the broadcast of the Supreme Council of State session was cut off.

The point of contention is about one paper written on the back with the name Takala, and whether it will be counted or excluded. If it is excluded, the round will be in Al-Mishri’s favor by one vote, and if it is counted, the two candidates will have the same percentage of votes (69) for each of them, and a third round will be held.

According to the results of the second round, Khaled Al-Mishri won the elections for the presidency of the Supreme Council of State, after obtaining 69 votes in the second round, compared to 68 votes for his competitor, Muhammad Takala.

The Legal Committee of the Supreme Council of State confirmed the victory of Khaled Al-Mishri and considered the distinguished ballot void according to the Council’s internal regulations.

It is noteworthy that the elections for the presidency of the Supreme Council of State are held every year, and the presidency has been held by three presidents so far, namely Abdul Rahman Al-Suwaihli, Khaled Al-Mishri, and Muhammad Takala.
