The price of mutual insurance has become a political subject. Every year, at the end of the year, a standoff begins between complementary health insurance companies, who announce price increases, and the government, which asks them to moderate their prices to preserve the purchasing power of the French. This year is no exception to tradition, while a particularly sharp increase in prices is looming in 2024: brokers have warned that the bills of the three families of complementary health insurance (insurance, provident institutions and mutuals) will increase on average by 8% to 10%.

Faced with this increase which he considers excessive, Aurélien Rousseau will receive this Friday “all stakeholders to discuss it”. And “an increase of 4% to 5% would be logical, 8%, that makes no sense, 10% a fortiori”, affirmed the Minister of Health on France 3, hoping that the increase in prices would not “lose purchasing power”.
