Electoral College redraw on the 12th, final list confirmed on the 16th
The 55th Korea Football Association Presidential election, which had been halted due to a temporary injunction banning elections, will be held on the 23rd.
The Korea Football Association (KFA) Election Steering Committee announced on the 9th that “the 55th KFA President election schedule has been confirmed for the 23rd.”
The National Election Commission said, “A re-drawing of the electoral college to prepare the electoral list will be held on the 12th, and after a 3-day period for voters to view the electoral list and confirm and modify their personal information, the list will be finalized on the 16th. “The confirmed list is provided to the candidates, and the election campaign period is from the 16th, when the list is confirmed, to the 22nd, the day before the election,” he explained.
This election was originally scheduled for the 8th, but was halted on the 7th when the court upheld candidate Heo Jeong-moo’s application for a preliminary injunction to block the presidential election on the grounds of unfairness by the National Election Commission.
The court stated its position that “there were serious procedural violations in the election process for the head of the Football Association that could be recognized as significantly violating fairness and influencing the results.”
The Election Commission plans to supplement the court’s points, and in this election, an external company specializing in election-related lottery work will draw the electoral college in the presence of the Election Commission using a proven program.
In addition, in response to the point that “the loss of a significant number of electoral college members due to the court’s lack of efforts to replenish the electors through re-drawing, etc., is likely to affect the voting results,” it is necessary to prepare a preliminary list three times the total number when drawing the electoral college. I did it.
In addition, the Korea Football Association added, “We are disappointed with the court’s decision to suspend the election on the 7th, but we respect the court’s decision and express regret for the resulting disruption in the election schedule.” .
In the 55th Korean Football Association presidential election, President Chung Mong-gyu, former Daejeon Hana Citizen Chairman Huh Jeong-moo, and Professor Shin Moon-seon of Myongji University’s Graduate School of Record and Information Science are running.
Candidate Heo, who had an age limit, can also participate normally in the new election.
Candidate Heo, who was born on January 13, 1955, violates the rule that only those under the age of 70 can run in the election held again on the 23rd, but the election committee said, “This change in the election schedule will strengthen the fairness and transparency of election work.” “As this is in accordance with the court’s decision to proceed, we confirm that the election candidate qualifications of the already registered candidates will be maintained until the newly set election date above,” the notice said.
