This project is intended to be a reference framework in favor of sustainability, social inclusion and resilience of oases, explains Mr. Senahoun, at the opening of a consultation workshop held for two days, at the initiative of ANDZOA and FAO under the theme “Sustainable oases”.

The Sustainable Oases Charter aims to generate, through in-depth studies, several data, knowledge and information on water management in ecosystems, said the official, adding that this project is of crucial importance in terms of collaboration between ANDZOA and FAO.

Oasis areas face major challenges amplified by climate change, desertification and demographic pressure, he warned, stressing the need for mobilization, commitment and collaboration of all stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of oases.

Mr. Senahoun said he was “confident” that the lively debates during this workshop will lead to ideas and conclusions in favor of the preservation and development of oasis areas.

Enhanced by the participation of the Director General of ANDZOA, Latifa Yaacoubi, the President of the Regional Council of Drâa-Tafilalet, Hro Abro, in addition to elected officials, representatives of professional associations and civil society, this workshop is part of the first component relating to the dialogue of the OASIL Project which aims at the revitalization of Oasis Agroecosystems through an Integrated, sustainable and landscaped Approach in the Drâa-Tafilalet region.

This project aims to develop a strategic vision and a practical and realistic action plan, allowing the strengthening of the resilience of oases to risks, according to the organizers of this workshop who emphasize that the development of oases is conditioned by the synergy and the federation of the efforts of several stakeholders at various levels of reflection, decision-making and daily practices.
