The excellent reception that Suzuki’s new 800 cc range is having seems to have convinced those responsible for the Japanese firm to continue expanding the range of models that currently use the new 776 cc parallel two-cylinder engine released by the GSX-8S and the V-Strom 800DE. two motorcycles that have revitalized the sales of the Hamamatsu firm in Europe.

As reported by Motorcyle.com, Suzuki already has the third member of its family of 800 in the oven, and after a naked bike and a trail bike, in Japan they have chosen to develop a sports medium displacement that will face other motorcycles in the segment such as the Yamaha R7 or the Aprilia RS660.

His name, yet to be confirmed, it will be that of GSX-8R or maybe GSX-8F, and it will offer an excellent solution to those motorcyclists with the recently issued A2 license who are looking for a sports car with a good chassis, performance engine and a modern and attractive image.

It is not the first time that Suzuki considers launching a sports medium displacement; Almost a decade ago, on the occasion of the Recursion prototype, the Japanese brand already revealed its plans to develop a futuristic sports car powered at that time. by a parallel twin engine with 588 cc displacement accompanied by a supercharger that increased its final power up to 100 hp.

That somewhat crazy idea of selling a supercharged mid-displacement sports car stayed there, but not the engine concept, whose outline and shapes eventually gave rise to the powerplant of the GSX-8S and the V-Strom 800 DE, albeit without overcharging.

This engine delivers 83 horsepower at 8,500 rpm. and offers segment-typical torque of 78Nm at 6,800rpm. Suzuki’s idea is none other than dress up your naked GSX-8S with a sporty fairingput some clip-ons on it and thus obtain a GSX-8R that could do very well on the market if Suzuki maintains its usual low price policy.

In fact, in Japan Young Machine magazine has already published renders of what its final design could be like, a look that combines the aesthetics of its already extinct older sister, the GSX-R 1000, with the new image of superimposed optics that has recently debuted the Suzuki naked and trail families, without a doubt his greatest hallmark at this time.

If you keep the chassis of the GSX-8S, the new Hamamatsu sports car will come equipped with KYB suspensions, radial brake calipers signed by Nissin and a package of electronic driver aids that includes the Driving Mode Selector, Traction Control System and the Bi-Directional Quick Shift system.

Taking into account that the GSX-8S currently costs 8,899 euros in the Spanish market, the arrival of an R variant with a fairing and a sportier image could place the RRP of this GSX-8R around 9,500 euros, something below the Yamaha R7 and its 9,799 euros of tariff cost.
