The t-shirt that connects to 5G and can save lives

by time news

AGI – A t-shirt with sensors immersed in the fabric, without metal components, capable of detecting our bio-vital parameters and transmitting them, in an intelligent and super fast way, in 5G.

It’s called YouCare, it is the result of a project born in collaboration between AccYouRate, an Italian company, and the Chinese technology giant ZTE and was presented on the opening day of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, one of the most important exhibitions in the TLC sector in Europe and in the world (which returns after a year of due to the Covid emergency). A prototype was presented in Spain.

Then in September they are already scheduled the first 5G ZTE connectivity tests in the Research and Innovation Center of the Shenzhen company of L’Aquila.

Smart clothing, the numbers of the market

The AccYouRate and ZTE project is part of a rapidly developing sector, that of Smart ClothingThe forecast of the market trend, for the next few years, shows a 180% increase in demand.

The polymer on him

YouCare is woven in an intelligent material, capable of detecting parameters such as an electrocardiogram, breathing, sweat components, muscular effort, temperature and transmitting it for all subsequent 5G processing. Its material, more precisely a polymer, is able to monitor health, stress, active life behaviors, improving the safety and quality of life of workers, sportsmen and the elderly: in this sense, 5G technology allows a quick response to critical and preventive events.

From devices to control centers

YouCare bio-vital signs are sent to a miniaturized control unit that records the data, converts them into digital format, sending them thanks to 5G to a bidirectional platform that transmits them to the user’s smartphone or smartwatch and to a remote unit that analyzes the values with a medical software.

House assistance

This technology opens the door to new health protection services in the areas of telemedicine, work, sport and well-being of the person in general. “It is an invention that it will change life and the quality of home and remote care to the many citizens experiencing health problems and vulnerable people suffering from chronic diseases, ensuring accessibility to the assistance and support services of our national and international network – explained Francesco Rocca, President of the Italian Red Cross, and President of the International Federation of Societies of the Red Cross.

“We have been working on the project since 2018 – he added – and being able to present today the results of this important experimentation, born in the most difficult moment of the Covid emergency, allows us to think with pride on the path made so far and to look to the future with hope and the certainty of having demonstrated the commitment, ability and dedication of the Red Cross network in the use and dissemination of new technologies at the service of the person and society “.

The experimentation in L’Aquila

The top management of ZTE also took part in the presentation. “We are particularly proud to be a partner of this extraordinary innovation – said Xiao Ming, International Business President of the Chinese telecommunications giant – we firmly believe that our 5G technology is the key to quality improvement of life”. While Hu Kun, CEO of ZTE Italy and President of ZTE Western Europe underlined: “We believe in talent and talents and intend to continue to make our contribution to technological development with an Italian matrix and global significance. For this reason, starting from next autumn, we will launch a test action on YouCare within our 5G Innovation and Research Center located in L’Aquila ”.
