In a statement to the press on the occasion of the official opening of the 11th edition of the Tafraout Almond Festival, which took place under the presidency of the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, Mr. Sadiki said emphasis on the relevance of this event which aims to contribute to the valorization of the heritage of the Anti-Atlas and the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of local populations, through the consolidation of the principles of ‘social and solidarity economy.
The minister also underlined the importance of almond cultivation for the inhabitants of the region, specifying that in Tafraout alone, the area of almond trees currently amounts to approximately 23,000 hectares, ensuring a production of 7,000 tons.
He also indicated that the sector will be further consolidated as part of the new “Green Generation 2020-2030” strategy, with particular attention paid to the promotion of local products in the sector, mainly through the establishment of a program support for cooperatives and local producers.
For his part, the director of the Festival, Rachid El Omary, indicated that this event plays a fundamental role in promoting local products, while allowing cooperatives in the region to market their products in the best conditions.
It is also an opportunity for exchange, sharing of experiences and conclusion of partnerships between agricultural cooperatives in various sectors, in this case the argan tree and the almond tree, he maintained, specifying that this edition sees the participation of more than 100 cooperatives and expects a number of visitors exceeding 2,000 per day.
In addition to Mr. Sadiki, the 11th edition of the Tafraout Almond Festival, under the theme “Land of almond trees, land of the future”, was launched in the presence of the wali of the Souss-Massa region, the governor of the province of Tiznit, the president of the Council of the Souss-Massa region, and the president of the regional Chamber of Agriculture.
The opening ceremony was also marked by the launch of the tourist information and orientation office in Tafraout.
Having become an unmissable event in the sector, this Festival is part of the Generation Green 2020-2030 strategy and aims to be an economic, cultural and artistic crossroads.
Built in the heart of the town of Tafraout over an area of 2,000 m², the festival sees the participation of more than 100 exhibitors of local products, coming from different regions of Morocco as well as professionals in the sector. It plans to welcome more than 80,000 visitors.
In addition to workshops intended to strengthen the capacities of participants, several artistic, folkloric, educational and cultural activities are organized on the sidelines of this event.
In order to consolidate the achievements and further develop this sector as part of the new “Green Generation 2020-2030” strategy, a new program contract is being concluded between the government and the Interprofessional Federation for the Development of Fruit Trees. This program contract to plant almond trees on an additional area of 108,000 hectares.
