A beautiful and rich Milanese girl falls in love with a misogynist farmer with a brusque character who lives in the Oltrepò Pavese, in the fictional village of Rovignano, and decides to conquer him: this is the plot of “The Tamed Shrew”, a reinterpretation by Castellano and Pipolo of the comedy “The Taming of the Shrew” by William Shakespeare with Adriano Celentano and Ornella Muti as the two protagonists. Released in Italian cinemas starting from 20 December 1980, the film was a success: it grossed over 12 billion lire at the box office, being second (behind Massimo Troisi’s “Ricomincio da tre”) in the 1980-81 film season. But this is not the only curiosity about the film, which it can be seen again on Thursday 19 August at 9.30 pm on Rete4.
