On July 31, within the walls of the BrSU, the presentation of the rector to the university staff took place. The event was attended by Minister of Education of Belarus Andrei Ivanets, Deputy Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee Vadim Kravchuk, Mayor of Brest Sergei Lobodinsky and Head of the Main Department for Education of the Regional Executive Committee Natalya Kalinovskaya.
There were words of gratitude for the work of the ex-rector Anna Sender. The new rector, Yuri Golubev, was wished to quickly adapt to his new position and continue to train highly qualified teaching staff.
The new leader came to Brest from Novopolotsk, where for the last six years he worked as vice-rector for academic affairs at the local university. Moreover, Yury Petrovich’s entire professional career is connected exclusively with Polotsk University – he began working there immediately after graduating from the Faculty of Radio Engineering in 1998. Five years later, the Ph.D. thesis was defended in the specialty “Electrophysics, electrophysical installations”.
Further, the career of the newly minted rector developed progressively – since 2006 he became an assistant professor at the Department of Physics, a year later he headed the teaching and methodological department, and in 2017 he was appointed vice-rector for academic work at his alma mater. Considering all this, work in Brest looks like a real challenge for Yuri Golubev. Firstly, this is his debut as a university rector. Secondly, for the first time he leaves the walls of the university, which has probably become a second home.
However, for the appointment of Yuri Petrovich as the rector of the BrSU named after A.S. Pushkin has weighty arguments. People who worked with him at Polotsk State University say that he is a very competent and thoughtful specialist who encouraged initiative. During his work as Vice-Rector, Yuri Golubev became part of a team of like-minded people who did a lot to solve one of the main problems of our higher education – to organically combine theory and practice in the educational process.
In this regard, the northern university had its own trump card – cooperation with the oil refining giant. The Naftan plant did not just take patronage over the university, they have developed and are developing mutually beneficial. This is exactly the case when the stamp about the “forge of personnel” was not empty words. And this is another task with an asterisk for the new rector – the Brest university needs to seriously improve its work in this direction. But is there such a strong support and support among industrial and other enterprises?
Another area of activity where Yuri Golubev proved to be a far-sighted leader is the development of innovations in university education and the introduction of new generation educational standards at the university. As a result, PSU has its own Science and Technology Park, in which three new companies have appeared this year alone. The university in Polotsk is implementing the modern model “University 3.0”, it has its own Center for the Development of Smart Education, which recently opened a new media studio for video recording of lectures. With such tools at hand, both the teacher and the student see the future more clearly. Take at least the official website of PSU. Euphrosyne of Polotsk – it looks modern and perfectly illustrates the life of the university.
The more interesting what will be the new vector of development of the Brest university. The school year is just around the corner, which means that the first conclusions can be drawn soon.
