Emotional farewells. On Wednesday, Senator Eliane Assassi participated in her last questioning session to the government. The President of the Senate Gérard Larcher made a point of thanking “personally” the president of the communist, republican, citizen and environmentalist group (CRCE) “who has brought a lot to the Senate”. Her speech provoked a standing ovation from the hemicycle, and the elected representative of Seine-Saint-Denis struggled to contain her tears.
“With her convictions, her commitment, her attachment to the Republic, this form of attention to others, to the most modest, to the poorest, she embodies the political family to which she is attached, but also a wealth for our Senate and for our Republic”, declared Gérard Larcher towards him.
Senator of the Year 2022
Éliane Assassi was first elected to the Senate in 2004. After three terms and eleven as president of the CRCE, she chose to give up the senatorial elections of September 24, recalls Public Senate.
She was particularly talked about last year, as co-rapporteur of the very critical report on the “sprawling” nature of the missions entrusted by the State to private firms during the first round of the presidential election. Her report earned her the title of “Senator of the Year 2022” alongside Arnaud Bazin (LR).
