The Teatro Real, a pioneer in broadcasting an opera through the metaverse

by time news

Today the Teatro Real broadcasts the opera ‘La nose’, by Dmitri Shostakovich, in the metaverse, a circumstance that will make the Madrid coliseum the first lyrical center in the world to embark on this adventure. From 7:30 p.m., fans of bel canto will be able to access the virtual performance free of charge through Uttopion, where a 3D replica awaits them. The broadcast will take place from the Main Hall of the theatre.

Spectators will have the opportunity to interact through their avatars with the rest of the virtual assistants as if they were in the audience. Viewers will also be able to access multimedia content, such as videos, interviews with artists and technical staff, as well as take part in a chat in which fragments of the opera will be discussed in real time. In turn, users will be able to talk to each other. The public will be able to connect from a computer or a tablet through the address www.uttopion.com, without the need to use an augmented reality accessory.

With this technology, the Teatro Real tries to reach young audiences, especially members of generation Z, those born after the year 2000. The opera, based on a story by Nikolai Gogol, lends itself to the “free, dreamlike universe and fantastic of the metaverse”, says the Teatro Real, which emphasizes that the production has been imprinted with a “cinematic rhythm and iconoclastic and visionary music, ideal for breaking down the barriers between the real and the virtual”.

The musical direction of the work is carried out by Mark Wigglesworth, while Barrie Kosky is in charge of the staging. Uttopion is the first Spanish metaverse, created three years ago, and has been a pioneer in segmenting its content into two communities: Musichood, dedicated to music events, and Sportsvilla, for sports content.
