The custody of the two police officers likely to be involved in the collision which seriously injured a 16-year-old teenager in Elancourt (Yvelines) on Wednesday has been lifted, the Versailles prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday September 7.
“The two drivers of the two police vehicles likely to be involved in the accident were taken into custody on September 6 at 6:30 p.m. The police custody was lifted today. A judicial investigation will be opened in the coming days”said the public prosecutor in a press release.
The teenager is “brain dead”, said the parquet floor of Versailles, Thursday. On Wednesday evening, the public prosecutor had initially told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that the ” death [du jeune homme était] confirmed and [avait été] announced to the family.

Two open investigations
Two investigations were opened shortly after the events: one for “refusal to comply”, entrusted to the territorial security of Yvelines, the other for “unintentional injuries by driver”, entrusted to the general inspection of the national police (IGPN ). The two police officers driving the two vehicles involved were taken into police custody as part of this latest procedure.
According to a police source, the teenager is accused of refusing to comply, early Wednesday evening, while his two-wheeler was “remote monitoring” by a police car in Elancourt, about thirty kilometers southwest of Paris.
At an intersection, the two-wheeler collided with “another police vehicle”, according to the version of this first police source. The facts took place around 6:40 p.m., according to another police source.

A squadron of mobile gendarmes was sent to Elancourt to prevent possible unrest in this town of 25,000 inhabitants, according to a police source.
