The tender ofconstructions public sector in the regions of Girona has grown by 5% during the first half of 2023, compared to the same period in 2022. However, local administration – that is, Provincial Councils and councils – is the only one that has increased its investment volume, while the autonomous administration (Generalitat) and, above all, that of the State have reduced it, according to data from the Association of Construction Companies and Infrastructure Concessionaires (Seopan).
In total, the public administrations have tendered, in the province of Girona, 156.3 million euros in infrastructure during the first six months of this 2023. It is a 5% more than during the first semester of 2022, when the figure amounted to 148.5 million.
The central government does increase its investments in communities such as Madrid or Galicia
However, if you look at the data by administrations, you can see that the local -coinciding with the year of municipal elections, which were held in May- it is the one that has increased its investment in public works the most. In total, Girona’s local administrations have invested, in the first six months of the year, 100.1 million euros, which means a up to 34.1% increase compared to last year, when at this height of the year the figure amounted to 74.6 million.
On the other hand, the opposite has happened with the state administration. Although it has also been an election year -with early elections, of course-, the volume of State investment in public works in the province of Girona it has been significantly reduced, going from the 37.9 million that had been invested last year to these heights to the 24.7 that we have this year. It is, therefore, a decrease of almost 35%.
Finally, regarding the Generalitat, its investment in the province of Girona was 31.47 million during this first semester, a 14.36% less than during the first six months of 2022, when the figure rose to 36.7 million euros.
