by time news

Foreigners from certain categories will be able to obtain Russian citizenship in three months instead of a year if a bill is passed to simplify the procedure. This was reported in the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reports TASS.

The ministry explained that the draft law of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the simplified acquisition of citizenship implies the transfer of powers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. If the parliament adopts it, the department will be able to consider applications from certain categories of citizens, decisions on which only the president can now make.

Among them are persons who have received political asylum in Russia or refugee status, and who serve in the Russian army under a contract. They also include categories without the right to a simplified procedure for admission to citizenship.

Zelensky has simplified the acquisition of citizenship for those persecuted in Russia

On December 29 last year, Putin submitted to the State Duma a draft law on the simplified acquisition of Russian citizenship. According to it, the authorities can reduce the requirements for admission to citizenship for more than 20 categories of citizens.

Among them are citizens of the countries of the former USSR and their children, participants in the state program to promote the voluntary resettlement of compatriots to Russia, people whose close relatives are citizens of Russia or in a direct ascending line permanently resided on the territory of the Russian Empire or the USSR. Spouses will be able to go through a simplified procedure, but only if there is a common child.
