The terrifying photos of a diver who crosses a giant squid 3.5 meters long (video)

by time news

It’s not every day that you see this kind of monster. In addition, the latter very rarely leaves its natural habitat to go swimming in plain sight. Yet that was what happened in 2015. It was on Christmas Eve, on the Toyama Bay side of central Japan. A giant squid about 3.5 meters long had shown its tentacles on the surface, under the eyes of passers-by. For several hours, the sea monster wandered among the boats for several hours before disappearing under water.

Never seen !

A most surprising phenomenon, especially when you know how rare such sightings are. If in recent decades specimens have regularly been found dead on the coasts, the first mentions of encountering a giant squid in its natural habitat were made in the deep waters of the North Pacific in 2004. As for the first living adult specimen filmed by a camera, it dates from 2012.

This is how precious the images filmed on December 24, 2015 in Japanese waters are. Especially because the creature was not satisfied with a short appearance: it visited the bay for a long time, swimming under the fishing boats, as close as possible to the surface of the water, allowing passers-by to distinguish it very clearly.

The pictures were amazing

During the few hours it was in the bay, the squid was approached (very) closely by the underwater camera of Akinobu Kimura, owner of local dive center Diving Shop Kaiyu. He took advantage of this appearance to put on the wetsuit and go swimming with the sea monster, as he later explained to CNN:

“My curiosity was much bigger than fear, so I jumped into the water and walked over to it,” he recalled.

The diver then went on to say:

“This squid was undamaged and looked lively, spitting ink and trying to entangle its tentacles around me. I guided the squid to the ocean, several hundred meters from the area it was found in, and it disappeared into the deep sea. »

A fisherwoman catches a big creature

Off New Hampshire, USA, a fisherwoman also experienced a similar situation. Except this time she caught a big creature. It is a tuna, almost in size with its boat.

On the sequence shared by Dailymotion, we can see the young American reassembling (as best she could) the big fish aboard her boat. Given the weight of the beast, its small boat pitches. Luckily she managed to pull it up.

On the web, Internet users could only be impressed by this video. Indeed, one of them did not hide his dismay by commenting:

“In my mind, a tuna is the size of a sardine. »

Biggest bluefin tuna

If you agree with this netizen, you are wrong, because tuna is one of the biggest fish. In particular bluefin tuna, which is the record holder for the species. And while the tuna that young Michelle Bancewicz Cicale caught off the coast of New Hampshire is the size of a boat, it certainly isn’t the biggest ever caught.

Indeed, in April 1986, a Japanese man caught a fish that weighed 496 kilos, or nearly half a ton. But not only, because a fish caught in Canada weighed 497 kg. Compared to these giants, the fish in the video does a poor job since it weighs “only” 453 kilos. Anyway, the young American was proud of her fishing. It must be said that it is a great achievement!
