The dandelion, the yellow flower that turns into a shower head, the symbol of the 11th edition of Taobuk, which will take place mostly in Taormina (Messina) from 17 to 21 June, and will be dedicated precisely to the theme Metamorphosis. Everything changes. A theme told at yesterday’s online presentation by the creator and president of the festival, Antonella Ferrara, who announced the full-bodied program, with 100 events in 5 days and 200 guests: If Taobuk is configured as a banquet of thinkers and writers called to read the present and planning the future, the Metamorphosis theme requires a real-time analysis of the great transformations that are taking place at this moment.
And the changed book market too, recalled in his speech Angelo Piero Cappello, director of Cepell, Center for books and reading: 2020 has generated a metamorphosis of the dynamics of book consumption: the entire supply chain has been invested in it, and forced to a transformation that communicates with digital. Two events that Cepell will bring to Taobuk: on 19 June, the Taormina event reads Dante, as part of the gala evening, with the introduction by Aldo Cazzullo and the reading by Fabrizio Gifuni (who will read from Comedy Il canto di Ulisse), and on 18 and 19 June the General States of the Pacts for reading, with mayors, regions and institutions, for the realization of a programmatic manifesto.
The Taobuk Awards Gala stands out in the festival program, Saturday 19, dedicated to the memory of Franco Battiato: the Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk, Emmanuel Carrre and David Grossman, with the actors Claudia Gerini and Antonio Albanese and an online intervention by Paul Auster, will be on the stage of the Ancient Theater. Worth mentioning is the forum on Europe, The metamorphosis of Europe, which from 18 to 20 June will bring 30 scholars to Taormina and the University of Messina. And in 8 thematic itineraries, the 5 days of Taobuk meetings: among the numerous guests, on June 17 the lectio by Maurizio Ferraris, Manuel Vilas and Nuccio Order; on the 18th Andr Aciman (online), Stefania Auci and Luciano Canfora; and on the 20th close discussions with the award-winning Grossman and Carrre.
Among the other events of the review, the tribute to Leonardo Sciascia on the centenary of his birth, with two tributes to the writer from Racalmuto: the absolute preview of the dialogue Conversation (im) possible, by Matteo Collura, an imaginary dialogue between Leonardo Sciascia and Luigi Pirandello that will be staged with Collura himself and directed by Fabrizio Catalano; and the presentation of the book A walk with Sciascia by the Italianist Antonio Di Grado, on the writer’s Sicily. Furthermore, the twinning between Taobuk and the Pordenonelegge review continues, with initiatives dedicated to young poetry: on Thursday 17 June, the meeting led by Gian Mario Villalta, with readings by young poets.
