Ankara. YouTuber Diamond Tema, known for his videos on religion and philosophy, defended his views on sharia in his discussion with social media phenomenon Asrın Tok on the YouTube channel ‘Yer6’. Tema talked about why he opposed sharia and gave examples from the Hadith compilation Sahih-i Bukhari in his arguments against Tok. Theme words that said “You cannot marry a six-year-old girl in any system other than Sharia” and Hz. An investigation was launched against him for “insulting a segment of public and religious values” because of his statements about Muhammad, and an arrest warrant was issued.

While the discussions regarding the words of Diamond Tema continue, Gülseven Özkan of Medyascope, Member of the Faculty of Theology of Ankara University Prof. Dr. İbrahim Maraş, Faculty of Theology of Hitit University, Head of the Department of Islamic History, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Azimli and Member of the Faculty of Theology Faculty of Atatürk University Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zeki asked İşcan his views on the matter. Professors working in the faculties of theology, Hz. He evaluated the words ‘Diamond Tema’, who was issued an arrest warrant for the statements he made towards Muhammad, by recalling the hadiths.

“It’s only about the prophet”

Hittite University Faculty of Theology, Department of Islamic History, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Azimli argued that some scholars increased the marriage age of the Prophet to 18 with different calculations, but this was not true and there was no evidence for this issue. Prof. Dr. Azimli, “Prophet, Hz. Ayşe promised when she was six years old. She entered into marriage at the age of nine. This is clear. Therefore, from the point of view of sexual relations, it is called ‘zifaf’. They were engaged at the age of six and married at the age of nine. Why did they wait three years? The reason for this is probably Hz. Ayşe may be waiting for her period, this is a possibility. “So you can call it marriage at the age of nine rather than marriage at the age of six, she was definitely married at the age of nine,” he said.

All stories on this topic come from Hz. The professor emphasized that he showed that Ayşe got married when she was nine years old. Dr. Azimli said, “All hadith, books of tafsir, all sources of Islamic history, Hz. He confirms that Ayşe was married at the age of nine. “Look at the Religious Encyclopedia article, it says she got married at this age,” he said.

Reminding that he is one of the people who wrote the first article on this topic in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Azimli said that scientific data shows this and related to the verses in the Holy Quran. Dr. Dr. Certainly, this case is only Hz. He spoke about the fourth verse of Surah Talaq, explaining that it does not apply to the Prophet. Pointing out that there is method in the Arabs, said the Professor. Dr. Azimli said: “It was not just the prophet who did this. Hz. Omar, Hz. He marries Ali’s amenorrheic daughter, Ummu Kulthum. The Prophet’s daughter, Rukiye, was married at the age of eight. There are many examples of this. Even men marry at a young age. The son of Amr Bin As, Abdullah is 11 years younger than his father. “This means that his father married when he was 10 years old,” he said.

“The child is telling the truth, he is not slandering”

Explaining that ‘Diamond Tema’ was telling the truth, Prof. Dr. Azimli concluded his words succinctly as follows: “The child is telling the truth. The child does not say anything or slander. Repetition of the historical information system in the hadith books. He speaks from Bukhari, the most authentic book of Islam. The state should not interfere in this matter. The court cannot determine these matters. The court ends in conflict at the end of this matter. They will reject these hadiths, which they cannot. Diyanet is not even making a statement right now. The Directorate of Religious Affairs believes that she married at the age of nine.”

“The low age of marriage in the time of the Prophet is a cultural phenomenon”

Ankara University Faculty of Theology Lecturer Prof. Dr. İbrahim Maraş emphasized that child marriage is an event that has been seen in all societies throughout history, and he said that it is wrong to make a statement such as “Early marriage exists in Islam”.

“Because this is a cultural phenomenon, a cultural event,” said Prof. Dr. Maraş explained that the age of marriage was low for all Arabs during the time of the Prophet. “There are nine, there are a little less than nine, there are more than nine,” said the professor. Dr. Maraş said that when a grandmother or great-grandmother is asked today, most of them will say that they got married at the age of 13-14.

Maraş said that this situation, which was considered normal in society at that time, would not have the same meaning today. “You cannot judge that period from today,” said Prof. Dr. Maraş said that Diamond Tema was wrong to say and argued, “You don’t see this in any other religion, anywhere else except sharia.”

“It’s a situation that is more common in Arab and Jewish cultures.”

Emphasizing that women did not have a say in marriage and that their freedom was restricted in all cultures throughout history, Prof. Dr. Maraş referred to the regulations in favor of women in the last few centuries. “Her family is marrying her off by proxy without asking her or even without the girl herself being present at the wedding. “Of course it’s not true, but this was the level of development at that time,” said the Professor. Dr. Maraş said that this case has nothing to do with religion and said:

“Every cultural event can become religious within that culture over time. This situation is more common in Arab and Jewish cultures. In our fiqh tradition, which we call sharia, that is, in the Islamic legal tradition, such marriages have been permitted throughout history. In the last period of the Ottoman Empire, in 1917, with the Ottoman Family Law Decree, it was decided that girls could marry at the earliest age of 17 and that boys could marry at the age of 18.”

“If he had been educated in theology, he might find things that could be criticized more.”

Emphasizing the problem of religion, Prof. Dr. Maraş said that the basis of this is that the solution to real life problems is sought in historical events and answers to everything are sought in the Quran and Sunnah. “However, Islam is a religion of reason,” said the professor. Dr. Maraş concluded his words by saying that one should act in the same way as is necessary to ensure justice today:

“Tradition has become a religion in our country now. When the tradition was converted into a religion, the humanitarian behavior of our Prophet was not denied or rejected at that time, and the behaviors related to his daily life were considered as sunnah religion and even entered our law books to this day today. If Diamond Tema was not ignorant and really trained in the discipline of theology, he could find much more critical things in our sources. But the same thing can be found in other religious cultures. Besides, Diamond Tema is not the first person to say this. “There is a similar criticism of his in the books of orientalists.”

“Hz. “The Prophet was born within a culture”

Atatürk University Faculty of Theology Lecturer Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zeki İşcan mentions Hz. He said there are rumors that Ayse became engaged at the age of six and got married when she was nine. Dr. Dr. İşcan gave other examples and said, “When he married Hatice, Hz. The Prophet was 25 years old and Hz. “Hatice was 40 years old,” he said. Dr. Dr. İşcan also said that some writers in the modern era objected to bringing the prophet together with such an understanding.

Dr. Dr. İşcan said, “We come across these stories and similar narrations in all our hadiths and hadith books. “However, we can raise the question of how ethical it is to accuse a religion from beginning to end just because it exists,” he said. Dr. Dr. İşcan recalled that some Muslim intellectuals did not accept the hadiths later on the grounds that they were tools for understanding Islam according to Arab culture.

Saying that he does not have this opinion, Prof. Dr. İşcan said, “In my opinion, the hadiths show a situation related to the way Islam is seen in Arab culture. So this is not a religion, it is Hz. “The Prophet was born within a culture,” he said. Emphasizing that it should be questioned whether there was any criticism of this situation at that time, Prof. Dr. İşcan said, “Hz is not in any part of history. The Prophet’s marriage to a nine-year-old girl was not condemned. This shows that this was considered normal in that day. “But this should be seen as a result of Arab culture, not religion,” he said.

When the words of Diamond Tema are recalled, Dr. Dr. İşcan continued briefly as follows: “He basically says the narrations and that what he says is true if there is no offensive reason. Of course, we also have rumours. But I think it is unethical to attack religion and its foundation just because it is in these stories. Because this is just in our culture. Hz. By Solomon, Hz. There are also many stories about David. They should also be brought on the agenda at that time.”
