The Chief of the General Staff of the Montenegrin Army, Mitar Klikovac, today welcomed in Plevlja the third contingent of the Montenegrin Army, which successfully returned from the NATO mission “Forward Land Forces” (FLF) in Bulgaria, reported the Montenegrin agency MINA and BTA.

Over the past six months, the contingent has participated in activities to strengthen the stability and security of the Alliance’s Eastern Flank in cooperation with Allied forces engaged in the FLF.

“The Montenegrin troops have proudly contributed to NATO’s peacekeeping efforts and our soldiers have once again demonstrated a high level of professionalism and commitment,” the headquarters said in a statement.

Klikovac emphasized the importance of this mission for the Montenegrin army and the country as a whole.

The Ministry of Defense announced that contingent commander Slavoljub Krastonievich has handed over his duties in Bulgaria to his colleagues from the fourth contingent, who will carry out tasks in the FLF mission for the next six months.

Forward Land Forces are multinational combat groups deployed in eight countries in Eastern Europe: Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary. Contingents from Albania, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Turkey and the USA are stationed in Bulgaria, with the framework country Italy. The presence of these battlegroups is defensive, proportionate, transparent and consistent with the Alliance’s international commitments and obligations. Battlegroups operate in conjunction with national internal defense forces and are present at all times in host countries.

Forces from participating nations rotate in and out of battlegroups on a rotational basis, and at any time they can be deployed to battlegroups or deployed to their home countries for rapid deployment if needed.
