This new increase in electricity bills is added to those registered during June (7%) and July (12%).
Las light beads will register soon a rise of 23%according to what was confirmed this Thursday by the National Energy Commission (CNE).
The information was provided through a technical report, which detailed that this new increase, which corresponds to the third recorded in the country this year, It will take place from October 1 and will be added to those that occurred in June (7%) and July (12%), respectively.
In this way, with this new increase in electricity rates, the authorities of the sector seek to reduce the accumulated debt, amounting to more than 6 billion dollarsafter the freezing of electricity prices in 2019.
Mechanism to avoid very severe increases in electricity bills
Subsequently, and due to the economic crisis generated by the COVID-19 pandemic, through Law 21,472, the Customer Protection Mechanism with the purpose of avoiding sharp increases in electricity bills.
At the beginning of this year, the sector authorities announced that during 2024 rates would be normalized and that from the end of the first semester and during the second semester the increases would be applied to update the price of electrical energy.
After the first increase occurred in June, the Government implemented the 2024 Electricity Subsidy, through which it seeks to support the most vulnerable families in this matter.
