The time before a power outage is getting longer for low-income households

by time news

Since the start of 2023, gas and electricity bills have jumped by 15%, which has weakened many households, especially the most modest ones. In a context of inflation, a decree published on February 24 in the Official Journal came to protect the French more in the event of unpaid invoices, reports Capital.

From April 1, energy suppliers will have to wait longer in the event of an unpaid bill before cutting off the supply to households benefiting from the energy check and the Housing Solidarity Fund. A buffer period of 60 days will have to be respected and this one month after having noted the unpaid.

The measure thus guarantees the households concerned a period of almost three months during which there will be no interruption of service. Previously, the deadline to respect before the power cut was 30 days for beneficiaries of the energy voucher or the Housing Solidarity Fund.

Please note, however, that the suppliers may during this period reduce the power to 1 kVA in the accommodation concerned, provided that it has a Linky meter. This means that the meter will only be able to deliver a maximum power of 1 kW. The minimum, which does not allow you to heat yourself properly or to operate a water tank.
