A traditional Silambam competition was held today on the occasion of the birthday of Udhayanidhi Stalin, DMK Youth Secretary and member of the Chepakkam Assembly Constituency, at the Government Boys Higher Secondary School campus in Keeranur, Pudukottai district. Tamil Nadu Minister of Environment and Sports Development Meiyanathan inaugurated the Silambam competition, which was chaired by DMK North District Secretary Chellapandiyan, and Tamil Nadu Law Minister Raghupathi gave prizes to the winners.
In this competition, various competitions were held including single pole throwing, double pole throwing, tail throwing, curling tail throwing, Chakrapanam, Vel Kampu. More than 300 Cymbal players participated in this competition and showcased their skills. And at the end of these competitions, the Silambatta players performed an adventure in fire, which surprised everyone. Also Tamil Nadu Law Minister Raghupathi gave prizes to the winning players and all the participants. In addition, Lokapriya, the gold medal winning powerlifter in the Commonwealth Games, participated as a special invitee and praised Law Minister Raghupathi Lokhapriya, who took pride in her victory and brought glory to India and Tamil Nadu, as well as DMK North District Secretary Chellapandiyan.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Environment and Sports Development of Tamil Nadu Meiyanathan said, “As announced in the election promise, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has taken Silamba, a traditional art of Tamils, to the national level. More importantly than this, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin also honored the Silamba practitioners by giving financial assistance of one lakh rupees each to 100 teachers who will teach the art of Silamba this year. Silamba art is healthy for the body Today’s youth should not be immersed in their cell phones during the holidays, learning such a heroic sport of silamba will strengthen the body” he said.
Later in this program, Tamil Nadu Law Minister Raghupathi said, “The post of DMK Youth Secretary is a tribute to Udhayanidhi Stal’s hard work. Later he contested and won the assembly elections.
