Conakry, December 18, 2023 – Following the fire at the main hydrocarbon depot of the Guinean Petroleum Company in Kaloum on the night of December 17 to 18, 2023, the provisional mid-day balance sheet shows deposits 13 dead bodies in health structures and 178 injured people of Guinean and foreign nationalities.

The treatment of victims enabled 89 injured people to return to their families.

On behalf of the President of the Republic, Head of State, the Government presents its sincere condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Guinea.

The Government welcomes the outpouring of solidarity which was manifested from the first moments of the fire, particularly in Kaloum.

He reassures that everything is done for the appropriate care of the injured to whom we wish a speedy recovery.

As a precautionary measure, wearing a mask is recommended in the Coronthie district area.

The fire has been contained and efforts are underway to completely extinguish it.

For better disaster management, the following measures are taken:

The establishment of a government crisis unit; The establishment of an evacuation point for the local population at the People’s Palace; The activation of a health emergency plan in greater Conakry for free care of the injured and affected people; The invitation to public and private sector workers to stay at home, except for defense and security forces and the medical profession; The closure of public and private schools; The closure of service stations across the national territory to avoid speculation; Identifying vital needs related to fuel to prevent possible disruptions in supplies from Conakry to the interior of the country; The activation of an emergency call number and electronic contact at the level of the National Agency for the Management of Humanitarian Emergencies and Disasters:
