The Andalusian cyclist, Juan Pedro López, faces next season with determination as a featured rider of the renewed Lidl-Trek team. His return to the Giro d’Italia, where he shone in the pink jersey two years ago, marks the beginning of a campaign full of expectations.

The climber shares his goals and reflects on the difficult 2023 where he suffered a complicated fall that left him with a broken collarbone. Despite the challenges, López is confident in the team’s potential to excel in the 2024 season.

Juan describes Lidl-Trek as a completely transformed team, with a renewed lineup and a different ambition for the new project. The significant changes that the squad presents in this new year will surely be conducive to being closer to the objectives set.

The Andalusian cyclist anticipates an early start to the season: “I’m going to start soon. I will return to a race that I really like, like the Tour Down Under, where I made my debut with Trek. Then the preparation will focus again on the Giro,” he noted.

Regarding the beginning of last season (2023), he recounts the adventures through which he navigated seeking to find his way again: “It started with many shadows, with the fall and the broken collarbone. I had a lot of trouble feeling like myself again. For several months it was difficult for me to ride in the peloton, on the downhills… a little of everything,” he declared for the Marca newspaper.

“I was afraid to even train with my group mates. I was afraid to let go, like a child does, to let my hands go on the handlebars. It was a bad moment for me. I was treating him with psychologists and professionals. It took me a lot to get over it, but I got over it. I don’t give my season a 10, but at the end of the year, in La Vuelta, although I lacked it a little, I found the sensations of being myself again,” he concluded his story.

López is another of those uncertainties that arises for Spanish fans, some trust that the rider will manage to reach a superlative level and be able to see him with real options for general classification, it seems that it will be a difficult path, only time will tell.
