were removed this Tuesday (2) from the rubble of a residential building that collapsed as a result of an explosion, in Aracaju, Sergipe, last Sunday (31). Both victims
They are a woman and a man who appear to be over 50 years old.

The bodies were found in different locations on the property, separated by a slab, which made rescue difficult due to the unstable situation. According to Lieutenant Colonel Carla Andrade, from the Military Fire Department, the bodies were sent to the Legal Medical Institute for identification.

“Right now, the high command of the public security system is meeting with the building administrators to collect more documentation about the tenants who lived there and check if there are still people missing,” he said. The meeting of the municipal management’s Crisis Management Committee will define the end of the search for victims.

Gas canister

The building, on Avenida João Ribeiro, in the Santo Antônio neighborhood, would have collapsed after the explosion caused by a leaking gas cylinder in one of the condominium units, on the morning of the last day of 2023. Another 14 victims were rescued alive , four of which needed medical attention and two remain hospitalized.

Three families who lived in the building were sheltered in shelters maintained by the Aracaju Social Assistance Secretary. The city hall also informed that it is carrying out a survey to guarantee social rent and all the necessary support for victims
of the collapse.

According to the municipal Security Secretariat, the Civil police
opened an investigation this Tuesday to investigate the case.
